The Cinemalaya survival guide

A guide how to pick good movies and avoid being bored to death

Nothing gives one as much hope for the Philippine movie making industry as the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, set to run from July 17 to 26, 2009.

The sight of so many 20-somethings queuing once again in long snaking lines, eager for their turn to watch—and not just because it’s a school requirement or it’s their friend’s film—is truly heartening. And that’s because some of these entries are genuinely great films—better than anything the mainstream movie industry has offered in the last 20 years.
