DEFENSE Secretary Gilbert Teodoro
on Friday made it clear that the suspension of military operation (SOMO)
against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) will not stop the
military and police from pursuing lawless rebels and the Abu Sayyaf
in the Southern Philippines.
Teodoro explained that the SOMO
is being implemented to enable internally displaced persons to go
back to their respective villages and start living normally. He said
it allows the military and police to carry out operations against
any groups that pose threat to the community, and the posture of the
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is to remain on active
defense.
