Military, police to hunt down 
lawless elements despite SOMO

DEFENSE Secretary Gilbert Teodoro on Friday made it clear that the suspension of military operation (SOMO) against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) will not stop the military and police from pursuing lawless rebels and the Abu Sayyaf in the Southern Philippines.

Teodoro explained that the SOMO is being implemented to enable internally displaced persons to go back to their respective villages and start living normally. He said it allows the military and police to carry out operations against any groups that pose threat to the community, and the posture of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is to remain on active defense.
