THE Sandiganbayan has absolved a former town mayor of Surigao del
Norte and a former acting municipal treasurer for charges of graft
and corruption due to the alleged anomalous purchase of sodium
lights in electric bulbs and medicines in 1996, citing lack of
evidence and reasonable doubt.
In a decision of the 1st Division of the
anti-graft court, written by Associate Justice Rodolfo Ponferrada,
it ruled that the prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable
doubt that former Mayors Enrique Patinio and Sonny Lasala of Placer
were guilty of such crime.
