GMA can run if she resigns

Stepping down moral duty, says Comelec

President Gloria Arroyo should resign if she decides to seek a congressional seat in her home province of Pampanga, a senior member of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Friday.

There are no legal impediments for President Arroyo to run for Congress in 2010 but “she would morally be required to resign as soon as she files her certificate of candidacy,” said Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento.
