TEHRAN: An Iranian group that had planned to organize a protest on
Saturday backed down after authorities warned of consequences if
they went ahead in defiance of the supreme leader’s call for a
halt to protest.
The reformist Combatant Clerics Assembly said,
“permission was asked to hold a rally, but since it has not been
issued, there will be no rally held.”
WASHINGTON, D.C.: A failure by US forces to follow procedures in air
strikes last month in Afghanistan “likely” caused the death of
at least 26 civilians, the US military said.
SYDNEY: Australia’s Treasurer Wayne Swan came under pressure to
resign immediately on Saturday over allegations that he and Prime
Minister Kevin Rudd abused their power and misled parliament.
