Beware of betrayal on SONA Day

SEN. Francis Escudero can’t be blamed for telling his inter viewer from The Star that he would just watch the next State of the Nation Address (SONA) on television. Sen. Panfilo Lacson was also being reasonably cautious when he said he was going to boycott the SONA on July 27, not wanting to be made an unwitting collaborator of ruling-majority congressmen out to railroad the creation of a Constituent Assembly on the day President Gloria Arroyo gives her ninth State of the Nation Address.

Is there really a sinister move to turn the joint session of Congress on July 27 into a joint session that would declare the formation of a unicameral body to propose changes in or a replacement for the present Constitution? Most if not all the senators believe so.
