The advocate |
|
By Rome Jorge Lifestyle Editor
Cover photo by Miguel de Guzman
For television and radio host Christine Bersola-Babao, her various advocacies—from literacy to the
environment, from housing for low-income families to nutrition and
food quality—are way beyond just lip service or public relations.
For Babao, these are all personal commitments for very personal
reasons.
Like many other media personalities, Christine
and husband Julius Babao are advocates of Gawad Kalinga Community
Development Foundation, Red Cross Philippines, Philippine National
Red Cross, National Book Development Board, Shepherd of the Hills
Orphanage, Qualibet Testing Laboratory and World Vision. But few, if
any, give with a passion like she has.

The beautiful horse

ONE day my father brought home a beautiful horse. She was the most
beautiful white horse anyone in our barrio of Pulong-Masle had ever
laid eyes on. She had long and slender legs, a silky mane, and a

New Pelaez biography provides a cinematic view of history

The patriotism that easily characterized generations of politicians
bred in the pre-Marcos era is clearly illustrated in ‘What’s
Happening to Our Country: The Life and Times of Emmanuel Pelaez,’

‘After Dark’ satiates fastidious literary tastes
|
|
Imagining that you’re a cameraman of a blockbuster film would
be easier as you turn the pages of Haruki Murakami’s latest novel,
After Dark. You soar like an invisible bird together with its master
as the acclaimed Japanese author narrates in a
first-person-plural-form manner.

The games of summer
(part 2)
|
|
Ah . . .the memories of summers past—rites of passage that usually
involved bayabas leaves; first loves and first heartaches. Nostalgia
is often sweet and if that is the kind of summer want, then look no
further than Legends of Wrestling.
