Until recently a remote
possibility, the holding of a second bidding for the automation of
the 2010 elections is now probable as the end-May deadline the
Commission on Elections (Comelec) has set for itself for the
awarding of contract draws near.
If the bidders could not supply
the 80,000 machines the elections would need, Comelec may be forced
to bend the law that mandates full automation for the 2010 polls and
go for partial automation, Comelec Chairman Jose Melo said Tuesday.
