SEOUL: South Korea’s former President Roh Moo Hyun, who was at the
center of a multi-million dollar corruption probe, plunged to his
death off a mountainside Saturday in an apparent suicide.
Police said they were investigating whether Roh,
who was in office from 2003 to 2008, killed himself. A former aide
said the ex-leader jumped off a cliff after leaving a suicide note.
SYDNEY: Australia on Saturday defended its escalation of swine flu
protection measures as global health chiefs said a vaccine could be
ready as early as June and worldwide cases continued to rise.
UNITED NATIONS: The UN Security Council renewed calls Friday for the
release of political prisoners in Myanmar and talks with democracy
icon Aung San Suu Kyi, but failed to urge a halt to her trial.
SHIMUKAPPU, Japan: Japan on Saturday pledged 50 billion yen ($528
million) in aid to small Pacific islands over the next three years
to help them with clean energy projects and to cope with climate
