Malacaņang and the Department of Foreign Affairs have denied a
newspaper story that President Gloria Arroyo has dismissed
Ambassador to the United States Willy Gaa for failing to carry out a
presidential order last February.
The Philippine Star reported on May 21 that the
President, while in Washington, D.C., for the National Prayer
Breakfast, instructed Mr. Gaa to take a picture of Mrs. Arroyo with
President Barack Obama who was expected at the affair. She had
designated the ambassador as photographer who had a good chance to
shoot the two presidents together but failed. The story alleged that
she ordered Gaa to ride with her in the presidential car where she
presumably gave him a dressing-down.
