The flag ceremony

No public function probably brings Filipinos closer together than the flag ceremony. In schools, city halls and government offices, all activities stop when the national flag is raised or lowered to the accompaniment of the national anthem. At least twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, the ritual known as the flag ceremony brings the community together for a symbolic homage to the national icons and for a brief recollection of our past. The flag-raising on Mondays and lowering on Fridays strengthens civic ethic and reaffirms our citizenship and identity.
