This year, at age 38, I wanted to finally learn
how to swim—well enough to save my life, survive a triathlon or
get certified for open water scuba diving. What I didn’t want was
to get stuck in the tiled confines of a pool for the rest of my
life.
After all, the real world isn’t a swimming
pool. In a tropical archipelago such as ours, enjoying the best
places in the country—its glorious open seas, brilliant coral
reefs, idyllic rainforest lagoons and exciting whitewater
rapids—necessities coping with wind, waves, currents and tides.
