Consumer pessimism eases in 3Q

CONSUMER pessimism eased in the third quarter this year on perceptions of improving business conditions and job prospects, especially among the high and middle income groups, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said Thursday.

In the latest round of its Consumer Expectations Survey, the BSP said the nationwide consumer confidence index (CI) eased to -31.9 percent for the third quarter from -34.2 percent in the previous quarter and -52.8 percent a year ago. This suggested that the number of respondents with positive outlook increased even as pessimists outnumbered optimists, the central bank said.
