A life turned upside down by Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

These days, every neatness freak and creature of habit gets to be labeled “OC.” From Jack Nicholson’s portrayal of author Melvin Udall in the comedy movie ‘As Good As It Gets’ to Tony Shalhoub’s protagonist in the detective television series ‘Monk,’ obsessive-compulsive characters have become part of public consciousness. But what does it really mean to have a true medical case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)?

The divide between those praise-worthy hygienic individuals, fastidious organizers, avid collectors, seguristas, ready-for-anything “boy scouts,” and those with debilitating mental illnesses must be drawn.
