• Navy rescues stranded tourists in Masbate


    ABOUT 100 local tourists stranded in an island in Masbate because of strong winds and rough sea condition, were rescued by the Philippine Navy- Bicol on Wednesday. Lt. Col. Angelo Guzman, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Southern Luzon Command (Solcom) spokeman, said the tourists were on the last day of their three-day island hopping tour in Sombrero Island in Masbate when the weather condition worsened. A distress call from the stranded tourists reached the attention of the Naval Forces Southern Luzon, and promptly deployed its Patrol Gun Boat under Lt. Edwin Nuestro, Jr. for rescue. The group transported the tourists to safety, mostly from Manila, to nearby Burias island.
