Former National Basketball Association (NBA) player Stephon Marbury will be arriving in Manila on July 25 for a series of charity work.
The former two-time NBA All-Star will promote his “Jersey For A Cause” project where part of the proceeds will benefit the Ahon Pamilyang Lansangan Foundation as well as the National Press Club of the Philippines for the medical and educational assistance it gives to its members and their immediate families.
“I can’t wait to be back. The Philippines has always shown me love, and I truly appreciate that. I’ll be there soon,” the 37-year-old Marbury said in a statement.
Marbury is fresh from steering the Beijing Ducks to their second title in the Chinese Basketball Association last March. He was a fourth pick overall in the NBA Draft in 1996.
He played for Minnesota Timberwolves (1996-999), New Jersey Nets (1999-2001), Phoenix Suns (2001-2004), New York Knicks (2004-2009) and Boston Celtics (2009) before flying to China to play in the Chinese Basketball Association.
“I’ve been abundantly blessed and I want to be a blessing to others. A lot of people, especially the sick children, need help. I’m just doing what I can to make their lives a little better,” said Marbury.
