Not only one or two, but four regions were allegedly involved in the forgery of special allotment release orders (SAROs) from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
This was confirmed on Tuesday by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Officer-in-Charge Medardo De Lemos, saying that although the only focus of their investigation now is Region 2 (Cagayan Valley).
De Lemos said that in Region 2 Office of the DBM, it was discovered that there was an attempt to release a SARO for the farm-to-market road projects last October.
According to DBM Secretary Florencio Abad, aside from Region 2, the fake SAROs were also discovered from Region 6 (Western Visayas).
Meanwhile, De Lemos refused to identify the other regions which are now being investigated by the NBI in relation to the fake SAROs.
De Lemos also clarified that it was still unconfirmed whether the P879-million amount of fake SARO came only from Region 2. PNA
