The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) seized P143 million worth of fake Gibson shoes and other items in separate operations in Pampanga, Quezon City, Manila, San Juan City (Metro Manila) and a warehouse in Biñan, Lagun, over the weekend.
The operations yielded the fake shoes, plus personal computers loaded with unlicensed Autocad software.
NBI agents acted based on a complaint of a certain Antonio Andres Jr. who said fake shoes made in China are flooding the areas that were eventually raided.
Gibson is a trademark based in Marikina City (Metro Manila).
Among the storeds raided were Ria & Edsel Store and Tess Galang Stores located in Dau Shopping Center, Dau town, Pampanga.
Other fake items seized were 4,130 pieces of Burberry, Bvlgari and Chanel products worth P136.7 million.
Charges of violation of copyright and infringement under Section 177 of Republic Act 8293 or the Property Code were filed against the suspects.
The NBI’s Anti-Fraud Division said the confiscations were supported by proper courts orders.
Gibson is a well-known local brand that supplies footware needs of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police.
