• NCAA 89th volleyball season unfolds


    The 89th season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) volleyball tournament starts today at The Arena in San Juan City.

    Defending champion University of Perpetual Help System Dalta start its campaign as it faces Mapua Institute of Technology at 9 a.m. (men’s division) and 10:30 a.m. (women’s division).

    The other women’s match pits Emilio Aguinaldo College against Jose Rizal University at 12:00 p.m. followed by their respective men’s battle at 1:30 p.m.

    April Sartin and Sandra delos Santos will lead the Perpetual Lady Altalettes with Honey Royse Tubino and reigning MVP Norie Diaz back in harness. Coach Jason Sapin of the Lady Altalettes hopes his wards would continue to shine this year.

    Meanwhile, Coach Roger Gorayeb returns to guide another title contender the Lady Stags. He missed the entire season last year because of the yearlong suspension imposed by the league for his involvement in a brawl with San Beda’s seniors basketball team in December 2011.

    The San Sebastian Lady Stags will face Letran on Thursday.
