NCAA football resumes Thursday

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 91 men’s football tournament resumes its Final Four games beginning on Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

After a three-week break since the end of the first elimination round, the tournament is set to start the year with a double-header featuring league leading Arellano University and fourth seed Lyceum of the Philippines University at the 11:30 a.m. game.

Defending champion San Beda College battles College of Saint Benilde in the second match at 1:30 p.m.

Arellano will enter the next phase with a clean slate after scoring impressive wins in the elimination round including its upset victory over San Beda.

The Chiefs started their campaign with a dominating win against Mapua Institute of Technology, 6-1, before blazing through the rest of their foes in the opening round to emerge with a clean 6-0 card.

“We are happy with our performance in the first round but we will still work hard to improve our game in our every match,” head coach Ravelo Saluria told The Manila Times in an interview.

Despite being tied with a record of four wins, a loss and a draw, San Beda edged Saint Benilde by 24 points in goal difference to take the second spot in rankings.

The Final Four phase of the tournament will be played in a single round format, which will pit all remaining teams against each other and the team with the most number of wins will emerge as the champion.
