NCAA: Letran slams San Beda, forces winner-take-all match

Letran College came back strong and escaped with a 79-74 win over
defending champions San Beda College on Thursday to level at one-game all their
best-of-three series for the NCAA basketball seniors crown.

Mark Cruz, Raymond Almazan, Kevin Racal and Mcjour Luib came up with a good finish to avenge the Knights’ 68-80 setback in Game One last Monday.

The winner-take-all match will be on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at The Arena in San
Juan City.
Letran was trailing going into the third period but came up with a big run in
to grab the lead 54-51 at the start of the final quarter.

After the fifth deadlock, 64-64, on Art de la Cruz’s jumper, the Knights led by Jamil Gabawan, Luib and Ford Ruaya put together an 8-0 run to post Letran’s biggest lead, 72-64 and the cushion they needed to coast along the rest of the way.
