NCAA: Mapua edges San Sebastian in double overtime

Joseph Eriobu Jr. and Kenneth Ighalo played a solid game in the second overtime to carry Mapua Institute of Technology to a 104-99 win over San Sebastian College on Monday in the NCAA basketball tournament at the San Juan Arena in San Juan City.

The Cardinals actually came back from a big 20-point hole late in the third period on an 18-0 run by Jessie Saitanan, Carlos Isit and Darrel Magsigay to move to just within two points, 55-57, going into the pivotal period.
Eriobu scored a basket to put Mapua on top by two points less than a minute remaining in the regulation period but the Stags’ John Kervin Ortuoste tied the score 76-76 in the return play to force the first five-minute extension.
A furious exchange of baskets tie the game anew, 88-88, to bring the match into double overtime.
Mark Brana then fired back-to-back baskets to move Mapua on top by four points en route to the great escape and secured Mapua’s first win in two games and dealt the Stags their second defeat in three matches.
