Ranbill Tongco and Joshua Caracut combined for 31 points as the San Beda College Red Cubs repeated over College of St. Benilde-LSGH Greenies with a 65-59 win Thursday to win their fifth straight NCAA basketball juniors crown.
The Red Cubs, who finished the double round robin elimination unbeaten in 18 games, collected their 21st juniors title without losing a game.
They crushed the Greenies, 79-68 in Game One of the finals last Monday.
Sixteen of the championships came from coach Ato Badolato, one from Tata Carraceja in 1967 and four from current coach Britt Reroma starting in 2010.
San Beda is the only remaining founding member of the oldest collegiate league, joining it in 1924.
The Red Cubs started strong with Tongco, Caracut and Arvin Tolentino leading the charge. They held the Greenies to only eight points in a 24-8 run in the first 10 minutes of action.
And with Diputado joining the scoring spree they remained on top 39-28 at the half.
The Cubs stretched the gap to 20 points, but the Greenies behind Alexis Barrera and Prince Rivero reduced the deficit to its lowest, 56-60, but with only 48 seconds
remaining in the match.
Tongco finished with 17 points, Caracut 14 points, and Tolentino 12.
Diputado was the fourth Cub to score in double figures with 10 points.
The four combined for 53 points.
Barrera led the Greenies with 17 points, Prince Rivero scored 15 and
Kobe Paras 11.
