Juan Paolo Taha had 25 points and 10 rebounds as College of St. Benilde trounced Mapua Institute of Technology, 74-62, in NCAA men’s basketball Saturday at The Arena in San Juan City.
The 6’4 Taha punched holes in the Cardinals’ defense in the fourth quarter as the Blazers notched their fifth win in 11 games for fourth spot behind solo leader Colegio de San Juan de Letran (9-2), San Beda College (8-2) and University of Perpetual Help (8-2).
St. Benilde is hoping to make the Final Four for the first time after a long while. The school won
its first and only NCAA crown in 2000.
The Cardinals of coach Atoy Co, who have a lone victory against 10 losses, put up a gallant stand and trailed 50-47 at the half.
But Taha, Jonathan Grey and Mark Romero caught fire to stretch the gap to 67-56, with more than three minutes remaining.
Kenneth Ighalo topscored for the Cardinals with 20 points.
