NCAA women’s volley semis begins today


The National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 91 women’s volleyball stepladder semifinals will begin today with the do-or-die match between University of Perpetual Help System DALTA and College of Saint Benilde at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Lady Altas and Lady Blazers will collide at 4 p.m.

After the elimination round, Perpetual Help took the No. 3 seeding with 7-2 while Benilde settled for fourth spot with 6-3.

“We have no choice but to win and that’s what we’re hoping to accomplish,” said Perpetual Help coach Sammy Acaylar.

The winner between Lady Altas and Lady Blazers will be facing defending champion Arellano University in the second stage of the stepladder semis with the Lady Chiefs holding a twice-to-beat advantage after finishing second in the elimination round with 8-1.

San Sebastian College automatically advanced to the finals by sweeping the nine-game elimination.

In the men’s division, San Beda College and Arellano University will be disputing the last Final Four slot in their 2 p.m. game.

The Red Lions and Chiefs ended the elimination with identical 5-4.

Reigning titlist Emilio Aguinaldo College (8-1), Perpetual Help (8-1) and Benilde (7-2) grabbed the first three slots in the Final Four.
