NDRRMC: Quake damage now at more than half-billion pesos

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Friday announced that damage caused by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Central Visayas has hit the P563.66 million mark.

This includes damage to critical infrastructure like roads, bridges and flood control facilities.

This is concentrated in Cebu and Bohol, two areas hit hardest by the quake.

Of the amount, Bohol sustained P546.01 million in damage, while Cebu sustained P17.65 million in damage.

As of 6:00 p.m. Thursday, the NDRRMC said 21 bridges are still not passable while three are hardly passable in Bohol, Cebu and Negros Oriental.

It added 2,938 houses were destroyed while 16,371 were damaged.

Five roads were not passable while one was hardly passable in Bohol and Cebu.

It also said 12 out of 47 towns in Bohol are still experiencing power outages.

The NDRRMC earlier said the death toll rose to 161, with 375 injured and 21 still missing.

The quake also affected 676,065 families or 3,426,718 people in 1,285 villages in 45 towns and seven cities in three provinces.

Of these, 20,034 families or 97,618 people are staying in 85 evacuation centers. PNA
