Penaranda, Nueva Ecija: at least five people have been killed in separate post election incidents in the province.
On Thursday unidentified men backriding a motorcycle shot at close range village chieftain Maximo Binuya at about 9:20 a.m., while his driver Danilo Binuya sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Binuya, of Barangay Bagong Sikat, Talavera town was to attend the funeral of a relative in this town and just got into his vehicle when the assailants appeared and fired shots.
Peñaranda police chief, Senior Insp. Jeffrey Alivia, said they are coordinating with possible witnesses in the attack.
The killing of Binuya adds to the statistics of post election-related violence in the province.
On Sunday, Emelito Paltao, coordinator of elected Gapan city mayor Emerson Pascual, was gunned down inside his house in Barangay San Nicholas.
In San Leonardo town, two post election incidents have been reported that victimized Oliver Bartolome and Warlito Pangilinan.
In Talavera town, village chieftain Gerald Fermin of San Pascual was also killed while attending a wake.
Nueva Ecija has been known as the “Wild Wild West” of Central Luzon owing to election related violence in the past 50 years.
Police said while violence rarely occurred before the elections, a series of crime incidents, believed to be politically motivated, occurred after the May 9 polls.
