Filipino-Canadian sprinter Zion Corrales Nelson claimed two bronze medals in the 2014 Youth Olympic Games – Asian Area Qualification being held at the Thammasat University Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The 15-year-old Nelson submitted 56.05 second to take the third spot in the girls’ 400-meter dash. Satwa Eid Naser of Bahrain grabbed the gold medal in 54.54 seconds while Huang Quifen of China took the silver in 54.88 seconds. Nelson copped her second bronze in the 200m event following her 24.30-second showing. She was actually in a tie for second with eventual silver medalist Ge Manqi of China, who also registered the same time. But the Chinese officially got the No. 2 position via photo finish. Chinese Liang Xiaojing ruled the event in 24.08 seconds. Nonetheless, Nelson earned a ticket to the 2014 World Juniors Championships scheduled in July in Oregon, US after surpassing the 24.50-second qualifying mark in the 200m.
