Neophyte congressman wants anti-women laws repealed

Neophyte congressman Silvestre Bello 3rd wants to repeal what he calls irrelevant laws such as the Revised Penal Code provision allowing a husband who catches his wife having sex with another man the right to kill her without facing any criminal liability.
Bello, who was Justice secretary in the Arroyo administration, was referring to the death by extraordinary circumstances provision in the Code.

While a husband can kill his wife without liability, the same Code metes a prison term on a wife who kills her husband she catches engaged in sexual intercourse with another woman.
“Can you believe that we still have such kind of anti-women laws? How can a woman be sent to jail while the man walks free?,” said Bello,  1-Banat and Ahapo party-list representative, said during the course for new House members.
“We should rid our country of such impractical and irrelevant laws,” he said.
Bello said the country also has many anti-graft laws that are loosely implemented.
“If we implement our anti-graft laws well, a lot of people will go to jail. As members of Congress, we should also be always on oversight mode when it comes to the implementation of our existing laws,” he said.
