NeoTextiles Philippines at the 58th edition of Manila FAME

The recent Manila FAME in October supported and highlighted contemporary Philippine fabrics through its newest event, “Neo-Textiles Philippines,” a textile-development initiative that seeks to develop and promote commercially viable and globally-competitive fabrics and fabric-based products (for home and fashion), made by local weaving communities using sustainable natural fibers.

Curated by international textile designer, Olivia d’Aboville, the event focused on textiles woven by three communities from three different regions: Ilocos Region (Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and La Union), Palawan and South Cotabato. Colroful inabel-inspired textiles by Balay ni Atong, the delicate fabrics made of silk, pina, and abaca fibers woven by Rurungan sa Tubod Foundation, and modern t’nalak (abaca ikat) woven on back strap looms by T’boli weavers managed by KLOWIL Agricultural Enterprise Multi-Purpose Cooperative are showcased in the setting.
