• Netizens oppose discrimination of ‘Muslim type’ bomb suspect

Muslim groups opposing the alleged discrimination of officials against the suspect in the Zamboanga bus bombing earlier this month started an online campaign.

The hashtags #ENDdiscriminationNOW, #MuslimType and the status “I am a Muslim type but I am not a bomber” has spread in social media websites after the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) released a sketch that described the bombing suspect as a “Muslim type” person.

“This is a protest to [Muslim Type] description of artist’s sketch of suspect of September 18, 2015 Zamboanga City Bus Bombing. I protest to profiling of any type,” said lawyer Ibrahim Mimbalawag who joined the campaign on Tuesday.

Let us stop this act of “bigotry,” Mimbala- wag added.

Other netizens, meanwhile, called on Justice Secretary Leila de Lima to align the issue to the “tuwid na daan [right path]” campaign that President Benigno Aquino 3rd is pursuing while others called on the ulama or religious leaders in Mindanao to issue Fatwa or Islamic ruling over generalizing Muslims as terrorists.

The September 18 bus bombing in Zamboanga City that left at least one dead and 33 others injured was blamed on radical jihadists, the Abu Sayyaf Group. The lone fatality has been identified as Fatima Imbriada, a 14-year-old Muslim.
