Netter Huey, partner enter Weber Open quarterfinals


Longtime partners Filipino-American Treat Conrad Huey and British Dominic Inglot scored a come-from-behind 6-7 (4), 6-4, 10-4 win over Germany’s Florian Mayer and Simon Stadler to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2013 Gerry Weber Open being held in Halle, Germany.

The fourth-seeded pair of Huey and Inglot will be facing the winner between Italian Daniele Baccialo and Israeli Jonathan Erlich, and American James Cerretani and Latvian Ernests Gulbis.

The Gerry Weber tournament serves as their build up for the third Grand Slam event of the season – the Wimbledon Championships which will begin on June 24 in London, England.

Meanwhile, junior netters Alberto Lim Jr. and Eric Olivarez Jr. posted their respective first-round victories in the 2013 Thamrin Cup International Junior Championships being held at the Kemayoran Tennis Centre in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Lim, ranked No. 3 in the tournament, blasted Davin Hanggodo of Indonesia, 6-0, 6-0, while Olivarez bucked a slow start en route to a 7-6 (2), 6-0 win over another Indonesian, Ganang Rahmat Trisnawan.

Lim arranged a second-round meeting with Indonesia’s Ahmad Maulana Bezuri, who defeated Sherwin Foo of Singapore, 6-2, 6-3, while Olivarez takes on No. 12 Yong Jie Isaac Ong of Singapore, a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Indonesian Anggi Ervian Kurnia Adi.

In doubles, Lim will be playing with Taiwanese Chen Han Yu against Davin Hanggodo and Timothy Jason of Indonesia while Olivarez got Seth Eh Teoh of Singapore as partner as they go up against Gil de Keyser of Belgium and Taisei Miyamoto of Japan.
