Sixth seed Khim Iglupas settled for the runner-up honors in the 7th Malacca International Junior Championship 2014 girls’ singles event held at the Malacca Tennis Complex in Malaysia.
The 15-year-old Iglupas bowed to No. 13 Mihika Yadav of India, 3-6, 3-6, in the championship round of the tournament sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation.
Iglupas, who had a first-round bye, made it to the finals by beating Ni Putu Armini of Indonesia, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, in the second round; No. 10 Lisa-Marie Rious of Japan, 6-2, 7-6 (5), in the third round; No. 14 Yang Lee of Taiwan, 6-4, 6-1, in the quarterfinals; and third seed Pai Ya Yun of Taiwan, 7-6 (2), 6-1, in the semifinals.
In France, Filipino-German Katharina Lehnert also wound up second in the doubles event of the $10,000 ITF Tournament held in Bron.
Lehnert connived with German Anna Klasen in nipping Mechaela Boev of Belgium and Ioana Loredad Rosca of Romania in the semifinals via a 6-3, 2-6, 10-6 decision.
Lehnert and Klasen got an opening-round bye and a walkover quarterfinal win over French duo Audrey Albie and Kinnie Laisne.
But Lehnert and Klasen lost to top seeds Isabella Shinikova of Bulgaria and Alyona Sotnikova of Ukraine in the finals, 7-5, 6-7 (5), 5-10.
