Sixth seed Khim Iglupas dominated No. 14 Lee Yang of Taiwan, 6-4, 6-1, to barge into the girls’ singles semifinals of the 7th Malacca International Junior Championship 2014 being held at the Malacca Tennis Complex in Malaysia.
Iglupas sealed a semifinal showdown with another Taiwanese in third pick Pai Ya Yun, who trounced unheralded Brooke Milner of Australia, 6-2, 6-1, in the other quarterfinal pairing.
Iglupas and Roxanne Resma, however, failed to sustain their momentum in the doubles event as they lost to the third-seeded Taiwanese pair of Pai and Chen Han-Chi in the semifinals, 6-7 (4), 2-6.
The 15-year-old Iglupas has already surpassed her quarterfinal finish in her first international tournament this year – the 2014 Hong Kong Junior Tennis Championship—held last January.
Iglupas is looking to improve her standing in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior ranking. She is currently ranked 537th.
Iglupas and Resma won a couple of doubles titles last year—the ITF Junior Circuit Weeks 1 and 2 held in Colombo,Sri Lanka, and a runner-up trophy in the Phinma International Juniors held in Manila.
