Filipino Alberto Lim Jr. and Taiwanese Wu Tung-Lin advanced to the quarterfinals of the 37th Torneo Città Di Santa Croce Mauro Sabatini being held in Santa Croce, Italy.
The seventh-seeded Lim and Wu bucked an opening-set lapse to turn back Italian Fedrico Bonacia and American Liam Caruana, 4-6, 6-2, (10-5), in the Grade 1 tournament sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
Lim and Wu will have their hands full in the quarterfinals as they go up against No. 3 pair of Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin-Busleiman of Argentina.
Capalbo and Espin-Busleiman secured a quarterfinal ticket following their 4-6, 6-3, (10-6) second-round win over American duo Vasil Kirkov and Sam Riffice.
“The field is really tough but I’m learning a lot from these good bunch of players. It’s a learning experience for me,” said Lim.
The 15-year-old Lim is preparing for the prestigious Frencn Open scheduled in June in Paris and the equally prestigious Wimbledon Championship in July. He is currently ranked 49th in the ITF juniors.
