Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach wants her victory to ignite hope in young people and serve evidence that dreams, no matter how impossible, do come true.
Appearing before local and international media in her first grand conference after coming home on Saturday, Wurtzback said she never wavered in her determination to win the crown.
“I am happy that I am back here today. I am proud to bring back home the crown. I have always believed that it would happen,” she declared.
“I hope my story will be an inspiration for determination, discipline, faith and hard work. Never give up on your dreams because you never know, it could happen to you.”
Wurtzbach joined the Binibining Pilipinas pageant three times before winning the Binibining Pilipinas-Universe title.
She won the much-coveted Miss Universe crown on December 20,2015 in Las Vegas, 42 years since the Philippines last held the title in 1973.
“I did not prepare a speech [today]because I wanted every answer to come from the heart,” she told an enthusiastic crowd at Novotel Manila.
She choked back tears when she recalled how emotional she was a few months ago at the same hotel during her send-off to the Miss Universe pageant.
Wurtzbach shared the two most memorable experiences she had during the international competition.
“My first memorable moment was when they pinned the sash on me for the first time. Right after they did that, I immediately looked for a mirror to see my reflection, because I’ve always wanted [to have]one,” she said.
“My second memorable experience was during the evening gown competition, especially the part with Seal, and I was wearing that blue Albert Andrada gown made by a Filipino. In every corner of Planet Hollywood, there was a Philippine flag and I was wearing the sash of the Philippines. I remember walking on stage and I had never been more proud. Nobody can take away that moment from me,” Wurtzbach added.
Joining Miss Universe 2015 during the news conference were Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. president Stella Marquez Araneta and Miss Universe president Paula Shugart, among other officials.
On Monday, Wurtzbach will go around several cities in Metro Manila for a grand parade.
