New ABAP elects officers

MAYNILAD President Ricky Vargas and business tycoon Manny Pangilinan were reelected president and chairman of the Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines (ABAP) on Friday at the Quezon City Sports Club. The ABAP, formerly Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines, removed the word “amateur” from its name in compliance with the directive of the International Boxing Association.

Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao was also elected to become member of the ABAP’s 17-man board of trustees. The elected officers will serve until the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

“It’s been a tough, long journey, but we’re now seeing the fruits of our labor. The task ahead is even greater, I know, but I believe that we’ll be up to the challenge. I’m very please with the confirmation and continued support by our colleagues at the ABAP,” said Vargas.

The ABAP general assembly was attended by 25 of its 34 registered stakeholders throughout the country.
