New cement developed for houses rehab

Republic Cement and Building Materials Inc. has developed a new kind of cement called Kapit-balay that is designed specifically for rehabilitation of houses.

It is high performance premium pozzolan cement with fly-ash for dense concrete structure.

“This product developed for renovation of disaster or destroyed by typhoons and earth quakes,” said the president of Republic Cement, Renato Sunico, during the “Housing Solutions Congress” at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

It has been used in construction and rehabilitation projects for communities in Bohol, Cebu, Iloilo, Leyte and Samar.

Sunico also said that the company plans to invest in the brown field investment. The brownfield is when a company or government entity purchases or leases existing production facilities to launch a new production activity. The alternative to this is a green field investment, in which a new plant is constructed.

Earlier, Sunico said that “the new finish mill in Barangay Bigte in Norzagaray strengthens our company’s sustainability initiatives through the implementation of environmentally responsive manufacturing processes.”

The firm’s total cement capacity is seven million MT per year, making it the second leading cement manufacturer and supplier in the country next to Holcim Philippines Inc.

According to the Cement Manufacturers’ Association of the Philippines, the cement industry reported sales of 24.36 million MT in 2015, up 14.3 percent from 21.3 million MT in 2014.
