Young Pinoys can have their fill of action and adventure through the newest cable channel in town, the Disney XD. Dubbed the new “home of Marvel super heroes,” the newest addition to Disney portfolio will feature action-packed, original series as well as exciting animated films about heroism.
Brought over by Disney Company-Southeast Asia together with local cable providers’ Cignal TV and Accion, Disney XD’s main audience will be boys ages six to 14. It is now available at Channel 107 for Cignal subscribers.
“Disney XD hyper-targets boys with our content that is filled with action, adventure, inspiring stories. We want our characters to inspire children to bring out the inner superhero within them,” said Natasha Malhotra, Disney Southeast Asia’s general manager for branded media and content in an interview with The Manila Times during Disney XD’s launch on May 28 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Makati City.
The Disney executive specified that the company wants to deliver important values to their audience, focusing on “never giving up, the courage to keep on trying no matter what, and to be unstoppable in that sense.”
Some of the original live action series to be shown at the channel include Kickin’ It, Crash and Bernstein, as well as the fun animated series Kick Buttowski-Suburban Daredevil. It will also bring the highly anticipated Star Wars animation series, Star Wars Rebels.
Meanwhile, exclusive to the new channel are Avengers Assemble, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H, Ultimate Spiderman, Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja, and Digimon Fusion Battles, among many others.
Living up to its promise, boys can also enjoy weekend holidays at home with Marvel movies Spider Man, Iron Man, The Avengers, Transformers, and Godzilla, as well as other all-time favorites that will be aired on Disney XD on specified schedules.
The channel will show something for the whole family like Cinderella, Snow White, 101 Dalmatians, all the way to Disney Pixar classics like Toy Story, Cars and Brave.
“If you review our portfolio now, we have very distinct brands. However, we realized that Disney Channel and Disney Junior were underserving the very core values for boys such as aspiration and passion. Now, we have the Disney XD for them,” Malhotra said.
To support their newest channel offering, Cignal TV’s vice president and marketing head Guido Zaballero announced that they will host a nationwide mall tour next month, treating fans to a meet-and-greet with their favorite Marvel characters, as well as a chance to win one of the 20 tickets to Hong Kong Disneyland, complete with air fare and accommodations.
Disney XD is carried by Cignal TV’s basic postpaid plan 430 and is available at Channel 107, as well as on the basic pack of provincial cable affiliates through Accion.
