MAYOR Ronnel Rivera of General Santos City sacked 500 employees to accommodate new hires. Workers from the front line services of the City Social Welfare and Development Office, Kalinisan Gensan, City Housing, City Planning Office, City District Hospital, Engineering Office were all replaced. Even the “Magandang Gensan,” a greeting for the citizenry of Gensan was replaced by “Here Comes Gensan.” The move earned several criticisms from Rivera’s critics as well as the GenSan residents with some saying that the move was part of Rivera’s “political war to avenge against his political opponent.” Meanwhile, Francis Martinez, Rivera’s spokesman, said they will continue accommodating their supporters to replace the Custodio supporters because the new administration doesn’t want the said supporters to stay long in the government.
