US President Barack Obama’s immigration order will also protect thousands of Filipinos from deportation, Malacañang said on Friday.
“I do not have the count currently. But you are talking about undocumented migrants in the United States. I don’t have the figure at the top of my head but we all have relatives I suppose in the United States and friends and perhaps thousands of them will benefit from the executive action taken by the Obama administration,” Palace deputy spokesman Abigail Valte said.
The Department of Foreign Affairs estimates that there are from 150,000 to 200,000 irregular or undocumented Filipinos in the US, known as “TNTs,” an abbreviation of the Filipino term “tago ng tago,” meaning perpetually hiding.
