Sebastian Vettel claimed his second win for Scuderia Ferrari at the Hungarian Grand Prix with a new, powerful blend of Shell V-Power race fuel powering the SF15-T Formula One car. Shell introduced a new fuel at the start of the 2015 Formula One season that has delivered a significant performance boost from the equivalent fuel used at the 2014 Abu Dhabi race.
In Hungary, Sebastian won using a third fuel performance upgrade from Shell that has helped propel Scuderia Ferrari to the front of the grid this season.
As part of a relentless, aggressive pursuit of performance this year, the fuel upgrades represent one of the greatest step changes offered by Shell in the history of the Technical Partnership.
“Although the fuel regulations remained consistent from previous years, the new engine configuration, fuel flow and consumption rules introduced in 2014 presented a real challenge and throughout last year we worked very closely with Scuderia Ferrari to develop the optimized fuel-engine package. We are now exploiting this understanding, allowing us to take major steps forward in performance this year,” Guy Lovett, Shell technical manager for Scuderia Ferrari said.
“Shell V-Power race fuel developed for Scuderia Ferrari uses 99 percent of the same type of compounds found in Shell road fuel. This enables Shell to test its products in the most extreme conditions and offer the best possible fuel to its customers around the world,” he said.
“We are happy with the progress we have made with the engine this year. We have to say that last year was not the best for Scuderia Ferrari but we have worked hard through the winter, including with Shell to make significant improvements. I think we still have a way to go but this new fuel is a good indication of the steps we are making throughout the power unit division. As a partner, we really couldn’t ask for more from Shell. They were with us in the earliest days of our history, their engineers are in Maranello almost every week and they are part of the family,” Lovett added.
Formula One allows Shell to test its Shell V-Power race fuel and Shell Helix Ultra with PurePlus Technology lubricant under the most demanding and controlled conditions. The learnings gained from working with Scuderia Ferrari are transferred directly to the development of Shell’s premium commercial products for the road.
