London is known as the fashion capital of the world making it a hairstyle trendsetter as well. This 2014, let London’s high fashion hairstyle be your crowning glory indeed by heading on to the newly opened Empire Salon.

Located at the Intercontinental Manila at the forefront of Makati’s Central Business District (CBD), Empire Salon is composed of a powerhouse team of stylists, all educated and trained in the United Kingdom.

“My education in the UK gave me more confidence to do things; to tell my clients if their desired look will not work for them. I adjust to what they want but I am also honest if I think otherwise,” shares Dizon.

For Salon Manager Angelie Manabat, the international training of its stylists also signifies the salon’s aim to professionalize the industry.

Lourd Ramos revamps straight hair with a ‘bounce’

Sleek, straight strands will always be a favorite among Filipinas. But since it’s the new year, it’s only fitting to give this classic style a modern upgrade by adding a little bounce and attitude.

“Every girl can do this,” shares TRESemmé TRESetter and Creations Salon founder Lourd Ramos. “You just need to make time to do the routine and use the proper styling tools and products that give you salon-quality results, like TRESemmé.”

Q: What is the bouncy straight look all about?

A: It’s simply having straight hair on top, but soft, aligned curls from the mid-lengths until the ends. It’s flattering for all facial shapes—just ask your stylist to adjust your cut by adding fringe or face-framing layers.

Q: Can you give us a step-by-step guide on how to achieve this look at home?

A: First, prepare the tools that you’ll need: a comb or skeleton brush and hair clamps. After bathing, use the comb to divide your hair in the middle and spritz hair ends (about six pumps will do) with the TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shine. Next, apply a handful of TRESemmé Styling Mousse on the lower half of your strands. Twist and roll your strands—into the shape of a donut—and use the clamps to secure it in place. Once your strands have air-dried and become shiny again, that means that your curls are ready and it’s safe to release the clamps.

Q: If you want more bounce and curls, what should you do?

A: It’s easy! You still follow the same steps, except that you create smaller sections throughout your mane and twist each part into a donut. Once dry, release each section, carefully finger comb through your strands to stretch the curls, and mist with TRESemmé Hair Spray to set. I use this technique in the salon on my clients, but the same technique is achievable at home when women try recreating the look.

Q: How else can you play around with this look?

A: Switch your part! It can make you look hotter and different—especially when colored and styled. Personally, I think a center-part best suits this look.

Before this, she had maintained long, straight hair for a decade. For her stylish and standout transformation, she added, “At least now I have my own look that’s different from everyone else.”

The #GetSassooned campaign launch also presented the Elastica Collection, the looks of the season from the Vidal Sassoon Academy. Inspired by the art of yoga, the Elastica Collection was a combination of elastic flexibility, precision design and a plethora of rich hues.
