Newborn baby boy abandoned in ravine

ARINGAY, La Union: Policemen here are trying to locate the whereabouts of the mother of the dark-haired newly-born baby boy who was found near an 8-feet-deep ravine near a road in Barangay Samara, Wednesday morning. The baby was found by residents with its umbilical cord still attached. A video uploaded on Facebook by a certain Gloria Salayon showing John Mejia picking up the baby with his jacket has gone viral where a number of comments expressed anger over the incident. The baby was taken to the Ilocos Training Medical Center (ITMC) in San Fernando City, by barangay lying-in clinic attendees in Barangay Samara for first medical treatment. He is now in good condition according to attending doctors. Meanwhile, Police Senior Insp. Daniel Banan, Aringay chief of police, said that he was certain that the baby was not from Barangay Samara or from its neighboring villages. “We conducted investigations in barangays in the vicinity and found out that no one is pregnant or has given birth for now and we theorized that the boy  was from other places,” Banan said.
