One winked himself into Filipino hearts. The other only had to wave to make the women swoon.
Two world leaders are making a splash on the Internet — 49-year old Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and 43-year-old Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Nieto took the hearts of Filipinos when he arrived at past 1 p.m. and winked his way through the crowd.
Trudeau, on the other hand, had them swooning when he landed on Philippine soil at 5:50 p.m.
By 7 p.m. Tuesday, the hashtag #APEChottie had garnered enough tweets to earn a spot in the Philippine trending list.
Some sites pitted the two leaders: Nieto was “Team Papi” and Trudeau was “Team Bae.”
Some of the top tweets include user @volkswaVen10’s “Dear Pinoy, Pirmahan mo daw lahat ng kasunduang papipirmahan nya – Women of the Philippines #APEChottie #APECbae”
User @iraspambot said, “Twitter going all thirsty for maple syrup and hungry for burritos #APEChottie #APECbae”
User @legendaroy found the trend to be the possible solution in pacifying those complaining about the summit: “How to get people to stop complaining about #APEC2015: bring out the hot people #APECbae #APEChottie”
Even TV personalities Bianca Gonzales and Karen Davila joined the fun on social media.
Gonzales posted on her Twitter account @iamsuperbianca, “Mexico vs. Canada, the #APEChottie #APECbae battle. Kanino ang boto niyo?”
Davila on the other hand reposted radio disc jock Karen Bordador’s tweet and quoted, “On a liiighter note…#APEChottie? What a hashtag.”
However, another user @ninasuarezz pointed out that netizens should patronize their own president. “Tangkilikin ang sariling atin. Dun tayo sa single pa!” #PNOY #APECbae #APEChottie
Both Nieto and Trudeau are married and with children.
As of 8 p.m., Trudeau was trending with 39 thousand tweets.
But then again, there will still be more sightings of the two heads of states in the next couple of days. Team Papi can still catch up until the summit wraps up on Thursday.
