SEGMENT 9 of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Harbor Link is now on its finishing touches and would be completed by middle of 2015, according to the Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC).
In a statement, MNTC President/CEO Rodrigo Franco said the 2.4-km NLEX expansion roadan alternate route to C3 and the Port Area—began in May 2013 would be completed in the middle of 2014.
The Segment 9—P1.7 billion project—would be connecting the NLEX Mindanao Avenue Link to MacArthur Highway.
Franco said once finished, the project would reduce travel time by half between Camanava and central and north Luzon; ease the traffic at the Valenzuela interchange and help decongest Bonifacio Avenue and the Cubao-Monumento stretch of EDSA.
“Segment 9 will enable motorists to gain significant savings in vehicle operating costs and travel time. There will also be lower incidence of road accidents due to better road pavement and traffic management,” Franco said.
He said four of the seven reinforced concrete box culverts have already been built while construction of the Santolan vehicular overpass and two footbridges are currently in full blast.
The project will also include another vehicular overpass at Marcelo Street.
Similar to the NLEX Mindanao Avenue Link, Segment 9 will be fully equipped with toll collection system, along with other vital service and safety amenities such as traffic management and telecommunication systems, median lighting, lane markings, signages, emergency call boxes and lay-bays.
