Northern Luzon Expressway (NLEX) posted its first win after three games by beating Meralco, 9184, on Wednesday behind the impressive performance of Kwame Alexander in the Philippine Basketball Association Season 40 Governor’s Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Alexander posted 29 points and 17 rebounds, veteran center Paul Asi Taulava 20 points and 10 rebounds while Nino “KG” Canaleta finished with 13 points to improve the Road Warriors’ win-loss record to 12.
“We lost four or five straight but still I appreciate my guys for sticking to our system,” said NLEX head coach Boyet Fernandez. “Michael Madanly is injured. He has no feel on his back strained.
We really planned to put the ball in the post because it’s only Sena guarding Asi.”
The Bolts tried to reduce the deficit to four points in the fourth period but the Road Warriors sustained its sharp shooting. Mac Cardona, who scored only nine points, made his presence felt in the fourth quarter allowing NLEX to establish a comfortable lead in the last two minutes.
Andre Emmet finished with 44 points for Meralco while Asian import Seiya Ando posted 18 points also for the Bolts.
