NLEX-SCTEX integration due this year—Drilon

MOTORISTS who are complaining about the travel delay caused by different toll plazas along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac expressways (SCTEX) might soon cut travel time as the government sets a unified toll collection system. Senate President Franklin Drilon said he has directed officials of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC), Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) and Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) to hasten the integration plan and implement it in nine months. Drilon, who was among those who experienced traffic congestion in both expressways in December, said he already met the officials who promised to iron out issues and sign an integration agreement by February. He earlier thought of filing a resolution seeking an inquiry into the capability of both operators in maintaining a smoother flow of vehicular traffic in their respective tollway stretches. It appeared that Drilon was stuck in the 11-hour traffic jam on his way to Baguio City last December.
