THE Department of Education (DepEd) will no longer be accepting students who want to enrol in the Senior High School (SHS) program as registration period was officially closed on Friday.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro said there will no longer be an extension of the early registration for senior high school (Grades 11 and 12) to avoid any delay and to ensure smooth implementation of the program in June 2016.
“We will not extend the deadline as we need to collate and use the data to refine our plans for Grade 11 implementation,” Luistro said in a text message.
The DepEd chief, however, added that they do not have data yet on how many students are enrolled in the program because encoding of reports from various school divisions nationwide is still ongoing.
“Submissions of the total early registration enrolment are coming in until the end of November. Collation and processing of the list will be done in December,” Luistro said.
According to him, more 1 million Grade 10 students are expected to enrol in senior high school, which will be rolled out in school year 2016-2017.
“We expect and wish to encourage around 1.2 million Grade 10 students in public schools and 400,000 in private schools to enrol for Grade 11,” Luistro said.
