No free LRT rides on Black Nazarene procession, LRT to allow barefoot devotees

IT’S bad news for millions of devotees of the Black Nazarene who will be riding the Light Rail Transit (LRT).

LRT Authority (LRTA) spokesman Hernando Cabrera said that they will not be giving free rides during the Black Nazarene feast which is highlighted by the image’s procession on Thursday.

“There is no free ride in LRT on January 9, Thursday, the feast of the Black Nazarene,” he said.

He said the LRT is expecting an increase in ridership on Thursday from devotees of the Black Nazarene who will be joining the procession on barefoot.

In 2013’s Black Nazarene feast, the LRT-1 catered to 612,371 passengers which is beyond its daily average ridership of 500,000.

However, Cabrera said that they will allow barefooted commuters to board the LRT trains.

“Mga nakayapak na deboto ng Poong Nazareno papayagan na makasakay sa tren ng LRT sa darating na 09 January 2014, Pista ng Itim na Nazareno,” he said.

To ensure the smooth flow of its operations, he said LRT-1 will deploy more tellers and security personnel adding that Safety and medical personnel will also be on standby.

The LRT-1 links Roosevelt in Quezon City to Baclaran in southern Metro Manila.
